Ryan Garrison

Executive Director

My wife, Julie, and I established Valor Therapeutics to help my fellow brothers and sisters who risk their bodies and minds for America. We offer you and your families treatment options not otherwise offered to military, veterans and first responders in the Miami Valley.

I am retired from the USAF, veteran of OIF/OEF where I sustained a career-ending injury during a deployment in Iraq, graduate of Wright State University, and owner of Luke, my service dog. Luke helps manage my mobility and trauma symptoms. As someone who suffers from chronic pain, tinnitus, insomnia and all they symptoms of post-traumatic stress, I get you. The medications I was given to manage chronic pain and symptoms of post-traumatic stress made me too tired to function, enjoy life, or even experience emotions.

So, we wanted to create a space to offer treatment options that are engaging, fun, do not involve medications, and may help limit the use of current medications. We want to help address mental health issues acquired from the time spent serving and defending our country and communities!

My passions include exploring historical sites with my wife, playing with our two sons, coaching their soccer teams, serving  the community within my church, and loving my service dog Luke.

Julie Garrison, MA, MT-BC

Music Therapist-Board Certified

Ryan and I established Valor Therapeutics to bring creative arts therapies, that are otherwise inaccessible to defenders and their families, in the Miami Valley.

As a military spouse and music therapist, I had the privilege of  working with active duty service members at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda Naval Station in Bethesda, MD through the National Endowment of the Arts. These service members sustained traumatic brain injuries and associated psychological health conditions during active duty; most of which were managing symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

The music we created changed their physiology responses, helped manage their anxiety, and led to new insights, especially during couple and family music therapy sessions.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Eastern Michigan University and Master of Arts in Music Therapy from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in IN.

WCC's Zee II

Facility Dog, Co-Therapist

Hello, my name is WCC’s Zee II. My good friends call me Zee. I am a Facility Service Dog graduate from Warrior Canine Connection (WCC).

I came on staff with Valor Therapeutics as of March 2022, which was also on my 2nd Birthday. I am not your typical therapist. Where most just talk, I am more interactive. I like belly rubs, ear scratches, snuggles, and the occasional kiss.

My job is to make sure you’re comfortable in the therapy space. I am certified in listening and took an oath not to tell anyone what I hear. I am also trained in anxiety relaxation. I help you release a hormone called oxytocin, which is a natural hormone that helps you feel better.
